Geography
We want our children to understand and become deeply aware of the world we live in. Our goal is to inspire a lifelong curiosity and fascination about our planet and its people, exploring both our own location and what life is like in different countries. Children achieve this by studying a wide range of topics over their years with us, using their imagination to investigate and delve into different parts of the world.
Throughout the school, children study the Earth’s key physical and human features. We strive to ensure that geography lessons are inquiry-based and promote independence, enabling children to develop knowledge and skills that are transferable across the wider curriculum.
Geography allows children to learn about a range of different places and localities. They explore the world around them through artefacts, images, and various maps, including digital tools. Pupils learn to describe places by studying our local area of Luton, our capital city of London, and our continent of Europe, before extending their horizons to the diverse regions of North and South America and the Far East. This global journey is enriched by our own school, which boasts a rich diversity of cultures among staff and pupils, offering constant opportunities to share and celebrate these lived experiences.
Ultimately, geography enables children to gain a vital understanding of their potential impact on the environment, changing landscapes, diverse climates, and weather variations both locally and across the globe.
